YOUR MOVING PLAYBOOK

A little planning.
A smoother moving day.

Use this guide to get your truck, rooms and crew working toward the same plan.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Arrange the vehicle first.

Confirm the truck size, pickup time and return deadline with the rental company. For a portable container, confirm delivery and collection separately from your labor appointment. A crew cannot begin loading a vehicle that has not arrived.

Ask what equipment is included with the vehicle. Furniture pads, straps and a dolly may be separate rental items. Tell us what will be onsite and what you want quoted.

Choose help by the work, not just the clock.

List rooms, furniture and boxed items, then describe the route. Stairs, a long hallway or an elevator wait add work without changing the size of the load. Heavy pieces may require more than one mover even on a small job.

A larger crew can share tasks, but the building, truck and item size still determine the pace. Use the pricing calculator as a rough labor subtotal and ask the team to review your actual project.

Pack for the destination.

Label cartons with the room where they belong, not just where they came from. Keep carton weight manageable and close boxes securely. Make a clearly marked essentials box for the first night.

Keep identification, medication, keys, personal documents and valuables with you. If the crew is packing too, separate these before the appointment.

Give the crew a clear starting point.

Walk through what is moving and what stays. Identify fragile pieces, pre-existing damage and anything that needs disassembly. Point out the items that must be accessible first at the destination.

Keep exits and the carry route clear. Arrange children and pets so they do not need to pass through the work area. Check that the vehicle has a usable loading position before work begins.

Decide where the big pieces go.

A simple room plan helps avoid moving the same dresser twice. Label rooms at the destination and show the crew the furniture layout. Check that doors, stairs and the truck approach are ready.

Once the large pieces are placed, prioritize any assembly and unpacking included in the estimate. Keep the rental vehicle return deadline in mind when deciding what comes first.
